Certificate Information
After Your Wedding Ceremony
Marriage certificates
Your Registered Marriage Certificate can only be issued by Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) once your marriage has been registered.
I will register your marriage (online) the same day as your ceremony and you will receive a confirmation email confirming registration so you can order it online the same day or you can order in person or pick up your certificate the next business day – if required.
A Marriage Certificate is an official copy of the marriage registration and is an important document that you may need to show to prove that you are officially married. When you apply for a standard marriage certificate, you also have the option to purchase a commemorative certificate to keep as a memento (see designs below).
For ceremonies in New South Wales – As an online marriage celebrant with Births, Deaths and Marriages (NSW) I will register your marriage with NSW Births, Deaths and Marriages on the day of or the day after your wedding. You can apply for a copy of the registered marriage certificate in person, online or by post for a marriage that occurred in NSW. You can also apply for a NSW marriage certificate online from NSW Births, Deaths & Marriages website or you can download an application form to print and send in by post. If just married you are welcome to complete my Feedback form.
Couples from overseas countries, who marry in Australia may require an Authentication or an Apostille Stamp to be placed on the registered copy of their Marriage Certificate issued by Births, Deaths & Marriages. To determine if you require an Apostille or Authentication stamp follow the link to Smartraveller or the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade . Certain countries require this before they recognise an Australian marriage certificate as a legal document.

All Commemorative Marriage Certificate packages include a Standard Marriage Certificate.
